For worrying about someone or working out a plan, use 「案じる」: 「安否を案じる」, 「一計を案じる」. For everyday thinking, 「考える」 is the default; weigh factors with 「考慮」, examine options from many angles with 「検討」, and think things over fully with 「熟慮」. 「案ずる」 is an interchangeable variant of 「案じる」 with a slightly old-fashioned, literary feel. Most of the rest are written-style thinking words — 「思索」, 「思慮」, 「考察」, 「熟考」, 「熟思」, 「思惟」, 「思料」 — while 「思案」 alone also covers worry.
