Neutral in register and common in both conversation and writing, especially in commentary, opinions, and analysis. With a person or perspective, the main clause gives an evaluation that holds from that standpoint, often implying others might see it differently. With evidence, the main clause states what the speaker infers from it. It is close in meaning to から見ると and からすれば.
Note that the main clause should express a judgment or impression, not a request, command, or the speaker's intention.
Do not use から見れば merely to say something is important or difficult for X; にとって fits that meaning.
- 1.からすると / からすればN2「からすると」also attaches to nouns and can express both standpoint and the basis for inference, so it is interchangeable with this pattern in most cases. It puts more weight on the grounds for the judgment, and it has a slightly more colloquial variant, 「からしたら」.
- 2.から見るとN2「から見ると」uses「と」, and its meaning and attachment are basically the same as「から見れば」; it likewise covers standpoint evaluation and evidence-based inference, and the two are mostly interchangeable. The following clause must likewise be a judgment, conjecture, or evaluation.
- 3.から言うとN2「から言うと」generally does not attach directly to nouns for people; say「彼の立場から言うと」instead, and it mostly attaches to angles of judgment such as standpoint, viewpoint, experience, and common sense. When attached to nouns like「立場」or「観点」, it is mostly interchangeable with「から見れば」.
- 4.にしたらN2「にしたら」mainly attaches to standpoint holders such as people or organizations, with emphasis on sensing their feelings and thoughts. In the sense of 'looking at things from someone's standpoint' it is roughly interchangeable with「から見れば」, but it cannot be used when inferring from evidence such as「彼の態度」.
- 5.にとってN3「にとって」focuses on what significance or effect something has for the subject, and the following clause is typically an evaluation such as「大切だ」or「難しい」. 「から見れば」centers on standpoint or perspective and can also draw inferences from observed situations — that usage cannot be replaced with「にとって」.
- 6.からしてN2「からして」is close to「から見れば」only for 'inferring from signs,' and it stresses even more strongly that this one point alone is enough to reach a conclusion. It does not express taking someone's standpoint, and it also has an analogical 'to begin with... already...' sense that cannot be swapped.
から見ると and からすると / からすれば are near-synonyms that also cover both viewpoint and evidence. から言うと is less natural directly after a person noun, and にしたら focuses on empathizing with someone's feelings. にとって marks who something matters to rather than whose judgment it is. からして overlaps with the 'judging from' sense but also means 'even X alone,' citing a representative example.
