Neutral in register and common in both speech and writing. In the evidence sense, the main clause often ends with an inference such as らしい or ようだ. In the viewpoint sense, it often follows nouns like 目 or 立場 or a person noun, and the main clause gives an evaluation, as in 私から見ると、この問題は難しい. It is close in meaning to からすると and から見れば.
Do not treat にとって and から見ると as interchangeable: にとって says what something means to someone, while から見ると gives a judgment from that standpoint.
Note that から見ると must be followed by a main clause giving the judgment or evaluation.
Do not confuse it with にしては, which expresses that a result is unexpected given a standard.
- 1.からすると / からすればN2Both からすると and からすれば are close to から見ると in meaning, and they can be interchanged in most cases. However, からすると emphasizes more the basis for judgment, while から見ると highlights more the viewpoint one looks from; both attach to nouns and are neutral in register.
- 2.〜から見ればN2から見れば is simply a variant with と replaced by ば; its meaning and attachment are basically identical to から見ると, so it can usually replace it. It often contrasts with other standpoints, implying that views would differ if you changed your standpoint.
- 3.から言うとN2から言うと normally does not directly take a person noun—you say 彼の立場から言うと instead. It mostly attaches to nouns expressing angles of judgment such as standpoint, opinion, common sense, or results, focusing on drawing conclusions based on them. When attaching to standpoints or opinions, it and から見ると are roughly interchangeable.
- 4.にとってN3にとって describes how something matters—its significance, benefit/harm, or difficulty—for a person or organization, and what follows is typically expressions like 大切だ or 難しい. By contrast, から見ると makes judgments or conjectures based on evidence or perspective. Use にとって when saying something is important or difficult 'for...'.
- 5.にしてはN3にしては measures reality against the preceding item as a standard, pointing out that things don't match expectations and carrying a sense of surprise; から見ると merely indicates a basis or angle of judgment without any contrast. Also, にしては can additionally attach to verbs and adjectives. The two are sometimes interchangeable, but their nuances differ.
から見ると is nearly interchangeable with から見れば and からすると / からすれば, all of which present a basis or standpoint for judgment, while から言うと more typically frames what one says from a position. にとって states what something means or is worth to someone, such as its importance or effect on them, rather than presenting a judgment made from a viewpoint, and にしては contrasts a result with what would be expected.
